Jay-Z Objects, But Damon Dash Must Sell Roc-A-Fella Stake
Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash has been forced to sell his shares in the iconic hip-hop label, a move stemming from a legal battle over a film project. A judicial decision mandates Dash to liquidate his shares to settle a debt to film producer Josh Weber.
Dash's legal woes stemmed from his dismissal from a film project, leading to Weber's lawsuit alleging Dash's misappropriation of project footage. After losing the case and being instructed to compensate Weber with $823,000, Dash's failure to fulfill the judgment prompted the court to authorize the sale of his Roc-A-Fella shares.
Despite objections from Jay-Z and fellow Roc-A-Fella co-owner Kareem Burke, the judge sanctioned the sale of Dash's stake. This divestiture marks a notable juncture in Roc-A-Fella Records' trajectory, leaving uncertainties about the label's future direction.
