Peter Akwaboah

Peter Akwaboah is a finance industry professional with nearly three decades of experience. He was recently appointed Chief Operating Officer by Fannie Mae  (effective May 20, 2024) and will be responsible for the Chief Information Office, Enterprise Operations, Business Resiliency, and Enterprise Workplace and Security functions. He will also join Fannie Mae's esteemed Management Committee.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Mr. Akwaboah served as the Chief Operating Officer for Technology and Head of Innovation at Morgan Stanley. In this role, he was responsible for driving the technology strategy with a focus on fueling the firm's revenue growth.

Mr. Akwaboah is described as a seasoned leader with a history of success in delivering operational excellence and innovation. His deep knowledge and understanding of the industry are expected to become an extremely valuable asset to Fannie Mae. Mr. Akwaboah is committed to helping the company carry out its mission of creating accessibility and affordability in the realm of homeownership.

Born in England, Mr. Akwaboah spent his early childhood in Ghana with family, returning to the UK as a teenage to further his education. Mr. Akwaboah faced many challenges when he returned from Ghana to the UK, but he overcame them by focusing on his strengths.

Mr. Akwaboah is also involved in philanthropic work in Ghana, supporting a hospital called the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine. He is also a supporter of National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Mr. Akwaboah holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
