Mr. Beckett started Fluid Audio Networks last year with 30 employees and $500,000 from the sale of his previous company, SkillJam Technologies to Toronto based FUN Technologies.
SkillJam Technlolgies an online gaming company had partnerships with tech giants such as Mircosoft and AOL.
Beckett a former prospect for the Dallas Cowboys has previously founded and sold several other companies including Music Gaming, Inc., which was sold to Intermix Media.
Prior to focusing on internet based consumer product applications, Beckett was Executive Vice President and principal of North Carolina based Sloan Financial Group Inc. At the time the largest minority-owned financial services firm in the U.S.
Beckett and Fluid Audio Networks is also behind the American Idol Underground website.
Launched last October, the site offers 13 0nline radio channels from rap to pop, rock and even spoken word. Each channel features unknown artists who each pay $25 to upload a song. Each song is guaranteed a minimum of 200 rotations on one of AIU's genre-specific Internet radio stations. In exchange for prizes, music fans listen and rate songs, whose airplay increases as ratings go up. The best songs from each genre are awarded prizes that can include a demo recording package for the artist.
The site already has over 100 000 songs uploaded and will in the next few months or sooner log it's one millionth unique visitor.
Mr. Beckett has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University.
