Kevin W. Williams has been president and managing director of GM de Mexico since August 1, 2006, reporting to Troy Clarke, GM group vice president and president, GM North America. He is also a member of the North America Strategy Board.

He served previously as assistant managing director and manufacturing manager, GM de Mexico, since June 2005, and GM North America vice president of quality from May 2003 through May 2005, reporting directly to Gary Cowger, GM group vice president and president of GM North America.

Prior assignments included positions as global executive director supplier quality at Warren, Michigan, since 2001; global executive director supplier quality, development, and supplier diversity for Worldwide Purchasing since 2000; and, from 1997 to 2000, executive director of supplier quality for GM Europe with responsibilities spanning 22 countries and 1500 employees.

Williams began his GM career in 1983 as a reliability analyst at Buick City in Flint, Michigan. In 1989, he became the general supervisor of production at the Lansing Craft Centre in Lansing, Michigan, and, in 1991, was appointed the program readiness manager for GM's EV1 electric vehicle program.

In 1993, he became a reliability engineer with the former North America Truck Group. In 1995, he became the assistant production superintendent at the Janesville Assembly Plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, and, in 1996, was promoted to area manager of general assembly.

Williams was born on September 27, 1961, and raised in Lexington Park, Maryland. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Tennessee State University in 1983 and a master's degree in business administration from Central Michigan University in 1989. In 2002, Williams completed the GM Senior Executive Development Program.

Williams is chairman of the Society of Automotive Engineers A World in Motion Advisory Committee.
