Black Chief Executive Officers
This is a list of current and former Black Chief Executives Officers (CEO's) from around the world.
Black CEOs have had to overcome significant barriers to reach the C-suite. Only 22 Black executives have ever made it to thecChairman or chief executives officers position of a "Fortune 500" listed company. Globally the number of Black Chief Executives Officers (CEO's) running billion dollar companies continues to grow at a fast pace.
According to CNBC, researchers from the University of Georgia and Stevens Institute of Technology found in a 2022 report that, on average, firms appointing Black chief executives officers saw their market capitalization jump 3.1% within three days of the announcement.
Tidjane Thiam is credited with taking Credit Suisse from a $3 billion loss in its 2015 financial year and returning it to profitability by 2018, but he was still forced out of the company in 2020 after losing a boardroom battle. Black chief executives officers face uphill battles but their positive impact on the companies they manage has been overwhelmingly profitable and positive.
