Bert N. Mitchell is the founder and former Chairman and CEO of Mitchell & Titus, LLP, the largest minority-owned accounting firm in the U.S.
The firm was founded by Mr. Mitchell and Robert Titus in 1974. Mr. Mitchell, who has served as CEO and chairman of the board for nearly 35 years, will officially retire on December 31, 2008, but will remain chairman of the board until 2010.
A native of Jamaica, West Indies, Mitchell immigrated to the United States in 1958.
Mr.Mitchell earned his BBA and MBA degrees from Baruch College of the City University of New York, and is a graduate of the Owner/President Management Program of the Harvard Business School.
He has been president of the NY State Society of CPA's, chairman of the NY State Board of Accountancy, Member of the Board and the Governing Council of the American Institute of CPA's, president of the Accountants Club of America, and co-founder and chairman of the National Association of Minority CPA Firms. He has also served on the Commissioner's Advisory Group of the Internal Revenue Service.
He is the author of more than 50 published articles on accounting and business management. He serves on the board of Ariel Mutual Funds, Rouse & Company and BJ's Wholesale Club.
