Aetna Chairman Ronald A. Williams To Retire April 8

Aetna (NYSE: AET) announced today that Chairman Ronald A. Williams, 61, will retire on April 8, 2011.

Mr. Williams is one of only ten black executives to become CEO of a Fortune 500 Company. After his retirement there will only remain five currently serving black executive in the CEO or Chairman position at a Fortune 500 company.

Joining Aetna in 2001, Mr. Williams has focused on creating innovation in the health care industry, especially through information technology, and bringing new levels of transparency to the health care system.

In 2002, Mr. Williams was named President and joined Aetna’s Board. He was named CEO in February 2006 and Chairman of the Board in October 2006.

Prior to joining Aetna, Mr. Williams was Group President of the Large Group Division at WellPoint Health Networks Inc. and President of the company’s Blue Cross of California subsidiary.
