MTV has agreed to a production deal via a first-look production agreement that could eventually include new TV series and even movies with entrepreneur Sean Combs' company, Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group.
Combs who stars in and executive produces the MTV series "Making the Band 3," which premiered Mar. 3 to big ratings, told The Hollywood Reporter that the deal calls for him to develop shows for MTV and to consult and appear on the shows. Combs said that this deal is different from his other joint business deals because it involves a significant funding commitment to his company from MTV to develop a variety of offerings, from sitcoms and lifestyle series to documentaries and feature films.
"It's a big step, my first TV executive producer deal," Combs said. "It gives me a chance to create content, but it also doesn't limit me to do things outside."
Combs is currently producing "Borrow My Crew", a new MTV special featuring Farnsworth Bentley; and Run's House, a reality series he's coproducing with Def Jam cofounder Russell Simmons featuring Reverend Run.
Combs' Bad Boy Records is reportedly in the process of signing Mario Vazquez, the young singer who quit American Idol last week.
